Michael Hall
Director
Michael Hall has had a varied and highly successful
career in the sherry trade and shows no signs of slowing down!
Today,
Michael is the only Director resident in the UK and is responsible
for all the activities of the Luis Caballero Group (parent company
of Lustau) in his home market.
Michael's career in wine began in 1961 when he
joined Friary Meux of Guildford as a trainee. A keen wine enthusiast,
Michael soon progressed into what was to become his expert subject
- sherry - when he entered the sherry trade as a junior salesman.
So began a happy and auspicious career in the world of sherry.
During this time, like all aspiring professionals,
Michael was tempted away by a new challenge from Bass Charrington.
It was in his role at Bass that he met Lustau's Managing Director,
the late Rafael Balao and Manuel Arcila, then General Manager.
Michael was head-hunted back to the sherry trade as Sales and
Marketing Manager.
In 1985 Michael founded his own wine business,
his first agency being the Luis Caballero Group. In 1990, the
Luis Caballero Group purchased Emilio Lustau SA, which happily
reunited Michael with his favourite sherries. Since then, Emilio
Lustau has gone on to achieve a significant share of the UK market
in both Own Label and Lustau brands.
As a respected member
within the sherry trade, Michael completed a three year chairmanship
of the Sherry Shippers' Association of Great Britain, 1995 to
1998. Michael has now been re-elected Chairman in 2003.
